| Practical, Tangible Business Solutions
My background combines a unique collection of leadership, management, and project leadership positions with original training as a psychologist to create a career focused on assisting individuals, teams, and organizations in improving their effectiveness in the area of work-relevant people skills.
My Two Key Beliefs
Two beliefs form the foundation for all of my work:
- Practical “people skills” will only increase in importance for professionals as the world of work continues to rapidly change towards ever increasing levels of complexity.
- Those professionals with these practical people skills will be the ones who thrive best in completing excellent work and will also be the ones who have the most career choices available to them.
It is no longer acceptable to be technically excellent but “people skill” poor or mediocre.
Many Different Work Experiences
One of my strengths is the fact that I have worked across a broad cross spectrum of industries, as well as having worked with individuals at all levels of organizations, from front line employees to chief executive officers. I have worked with companies representing industries such as:
- Aerospace
- Electronics
- Software
- Manufacturing
- Financial services
- Insurance
- Professional services firms
- Engineering
- Biotech
- Public organizations and private universities.
Affiliation Relationships
I have enjoyed developing long-term affiliation relationships with a number of organizations whose work complements mine. For a number of years, I have been affiliated with the Project Management Institute (www.pmi.org), presenting talks and seminars to PMI groups on regional, domestic, and global levels. I have also been a consulting psychologist since 1986 for the international career transition firm, DBM (www.dbm.com), providing individual career assessment work and executive coaching to over 1,200 individual professionals, from mid level managers up to chief executive officers.
Writing, Training, Teaching
I am the author of books, papers, and professional presentations that reflect my various interests (See Publications).
I have conducted seminars on “people skills” to technology and project professionals in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. I have taught at the graduate level for the University of Notre Dame, and have also taught for the University of California, Berkeley, in the Extension program.
